Membership

There are a variety of membership categories at Edgeware, they are summarised here with prices available at the bottom of the page.

Beginners

We welcome all people who wish to begin playing, or get back into, tennis. We cater to all levels of beginners from the age of five to adults.

We offer Saturday morning coaching for our junior members which is included in family membership fees.  The Saturday morning coaching is held at the club between 8.30am and 10.15am with children being placed in small groups together with others of a similar ability. Feel free to come along to the club at 8:30am from September to March (excluding school holidays) to give it a go, racquets available at the club.

Our professional coach offers private coaching for anyone, young or old, who is interested in improving their skills. Please contact us for further details.

Junior Interclub

Children can move on from beginners coaching to join our interclub programme. We have a range of teams covering all age groups and abilities. The teams play on Friday night or Saturday and each have a parent assigned to assist with their organisation. The Junior Interclub teams receive a free one hour coaching lesson every week.

The children enjoy our club tournaments which we hold twice yearly. There are low entry fees for these and they are heaps of fun with great prizes.
Winter coaching is available from our club coach, who continually identifies talent and provides opportunities for children to advance through the teams.

Seniors

We have a number of options available for adults who wish to play tennis competitively or socially.

Interclub competition, which includes clubs from all over Christchurch, provides our members with the opportunity of meeting new people and varying the challenges and skill level of their play. This year we have a Premier Team (the best tennis you will see in the city), Div 2,3 &4 men’s teams, two Div 2 women’s teams and a mixed team. Please contact our club captains link if you are interested in joining one of our teams.

We also are part of the midweek competition, usually played on a Monday or Wednesday.

If Social tennis is what you are after then casual organised tennis is held at the club all year round at the following times:

• Tuesday mornings – 9:30am to 12pm (in winter we start at 10am)
• Saturday afternoon – 1.30pm till around 6.00pm

You are most welcome to join other club members at these times for a game of tennis. We try to ensure members get to play people of a similar ability. All of our members are very friendly and we welcome new faces. Play within these casual times is very flexible so you can turn up for all or only part of a session, and as regularly as you like.

Members can purchase a key for a small yearly fee (see above) to gain access to the courts. The courts are generally available day or night, with the exception of competition time, usually on Saturdays. The lights at night are free for members.
